Can we talk about Islamic homophobia now?

"East London has seen the highest increase in homophobic attacks anywhere in Britain. Everybody knows why, and nobody wants to say it. It is because East London has the highest Muslim population in Britain, and we have allowed a fanatically intolerant attitude towards gay people to incubate there, in the name of “tolerance”."

From an article on Johann Hari's blog.

  1. It is about time we talk about Islamic homophobia. We cannot have a society that allows civil partnership (and hopefully one day marriage) for homosexuals and in the same time tolerate the sinister oppressive farce that is the sharia.

  2. Prior to the influx (if that's the word) of Muslims into parts of East London that area had a reputation for concentrations of 'Little Englanders' of the National Front and the British National Party and so on. All of these manifestations of the 'far' right wing were queer haters and queer bashers.

No change there then - the area has surely be breeding bad attitudes for decades.
